The Last Ship is an original musical with music and lyrics by Sting and a book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey. Inspired by Sting's own childhood experiences and the shipbuilding industry in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, the musical tells the story of Gideon Fletcher, a young man who returns to his hometown after the death of his father to reclaim his past (including his former love, Meg) and understand how the struggling community he once sought to escape shaped the person he has become. The musical received two Tony Award nominations in 2015, for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations.
